The Summer I Turned Pretty: All Paris Filming Locations

Summer of 2023 was a special time: the Barbie Movie, the Eras Tour, and the summer I found a new T.V. show to be obsessed with – otherwise known as The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Known as the hit Amazon Prime series, The Summer I Turned Pretty stars Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno – the T.V. series based on Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty book series recounts a love story between Belly and Conrad.

It’s a simple show with underrated complex themes, but still screams summer – and the show easily became an annual re-watch in my household.

For season 3, when I found out Jenny decided to stray from how the books ended (spoiler, in the books Belly goes to Spain) and sends Belly to Paris (which makes way more sense anyways, as she notably studied French in both the books and the movies) – I was ready to watch with wide eyes as a local Parisian to find all of the places Belly was in Paris.

Before breaking down all of The Summer I Turned Pretty filming locations in Paris, let’s break down what the show got right about living in Paris and what it got wrong:

🇫🇷✨ “The Summer I Turned Pretty” in Paris — What It Got Right vs. Wrong 📺

✅ What it got right

🌉 10th arrondissement / Canal St-Martin vibe

Having Belly live around the 10th / Canal St-Martin totally tracks — it’s a young, cheaper, buzzy part of Paris where students and interns actually live. Sharing an apartment with colocataires (aka roommates / flatmates) is super common there, especially if you’re not earning a French salary yet.

🎓 5th arrondissement as student territory

The show was right to put her around the 5th for school stuff — it’s very student-friendly (think Sorbonne area, bookstores, language schools). Getting off the metro there to go sign up for classes as an exchange student makes sense.

❌ What it got wrong

🛂 “I just arrived and stayed” reality check

Belly couldn’t have just shown up in Paris and magically stayed long-term. She would’ve had to return to the U.S. to apply for a French student visa through the consulate, then come back with the right paperwork. You can see the whole process here: how I got my student visa — step by step.

🏡 Montmartre apartment = TV fantasy

A big Montmartre apartment with a direct Sacré-Cœur view would easily be €2,000+/month — probably more — and landlords in Paris usually want a CDI (permanent contract) or solid proof of income. Two under-the-table jobs wouldn’t have covered that. It's cute for TV, but not realistic.

As an American living in Paris for several years, I decided to go on a “Belly in Paris” adventure to find all of the places she was hiding out in after fleeing from her almost-wedding to Jeramiah.

In this article, I will break down each location by each episode – in addition to categorizing them by arrondissement, or neighborhoods in Paris, to make discovering your favorite The Summer I Turned Pretty filming scenes in Paris.

All “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Filming Locations in Paris

Season 3, Episode 9: “Last Call” Filming Locations

Charles de Gaulle Airport

Perhaps unbeknownst to most, but the airport season in both episode 8 and 9 of season 3 in The Summer I Turned Pretty was actually filmed in Charles de Gaulle (CDG) – or Paris’s real major airport!

I can confirm as someone who lives in Paris, that Belly absolutely lands in the real Paris airport – all of the signs and border control are set up just as they truly are in Charles de Gaulle.

Anyone who lives in Paris can instantly recognize the Relay store in the background and the infamous red chairs in one of the airport’s international terminals.

Metro: RER A (follow signs for Charles de Gaulle Terminal 1 or 2; TSITP was definitely not filmed in Terminal 3 – which is usually for in-Europe flights and is much smaller)

Censier-Daubenton

Perhaps one of my favorite moments as I could personally relate to when watching the show, Censier-Daubenton is the metro station where Belly walks out and sees Paris for the first time.

Watching this part of the show made me feel 18-years-old again: seeing the stunning iron gate fences and quintessential Parisian rooftops with my own eyes for the first time…

Ninon

This is where Belly is wandering around the 5th arrondissement, and eventually calls her mom after she learns the school she was going to study abroad at no longer has a spot for her. Laurel tells Belly to go find a quiet place to sit and buy a ticket back home, and that she doesn’t care what it costs.

Le Descartes

Le Descartes is a typical French brasserie where Belly sits down to eat and presumably buy her ticket back home. However, as a rookie mistake, not understanding how notorious Paris is for pickpocketing – Belly leaves her bag out of her sight and wide open for someone to steal it (with Susannah’s ring inside it)!

The great thing about this while watching the episode was how much I commended Jenny Han and the rest of The Summer I Turned Pretty team for making Belly’s wandering around Paris sequence logical – as Le Descartes is walking distance and around the corner from Ninon, where Belly called her mom moments before.

Metro: Line 10; Caridnal Lemoine (follow signs for Rue du Caridnal Lemoine)

Pont au Double

At the end of episode 9, Belly walks across a bridge and turns around to see Notre-Dame – where she states that, “rebuilding is always possible” while seeing the infamous cathedral in Paris also still under construction.

Roissy-Bus

Another detail The Summer I Turned Pretty got right in the show is Belly riding back to the airport on the Roissy-Bus – which leaves from central Paris near Opéra and is my preferred way as a local to get to Charles de Gaulle.

Season 3, Episode 10: “Last Year” Filming Locations

This episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty has the most Paris locations, of which they actually planned very logically – as many of the places Belly shopped at and spent time at were all next to each other in the 10th arrondissement.

Canal St. Martin

Season 3 episode 10 of The Summer I Turned Pretty starts with Belly on the phone calling her mom from one of the infamous green bridges along the Canal St. Martin while eating a pain au chocolat.

Place Vendôme

In the midst of the Christmas montage, there’s a shot of the iconic dual Christmas trees always placed in Place Vendôme every year.

As a local Parisian, I really appreciated this shot – as Place Vendôme is probably one of my favorite spots in Paris during the holidays.

Galleries Lafayette

Similar to how there’s a different turkey float for the Thanksgiving Macy’s parade every year, anyone living in Paris knows that Galleries Lafayette (the main location on Boulevard Haussman) has a different Christmas “float” every year.

Christmas Markets (Les Marchés de Noël)

There are also a few shots of various Christmas markets in Paris in the tenth episode of season 3 in The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, as a local living in Paris – I couldn’t quite make out what these markets were supposed to be, but one of the most popular ones is at Tuileries, better known as Fête de Tuileries.

Primeurs de Lancry

This is Belly’s local produce stand where she purchases a plum, and is recounting how homesick she is and how she has realized she’s never really done anything on her own before.

Du Pain et des Idées

Right around the corner from her local produce stand, this is the bakery where Belly says that she practices French in head every time before she speaks –but that everyone continues to answer in English, always.

Local Parisian Tip: if you keep answering back to them in French – they’ll get the hint you don’t want to speak in English!

Ecoles Cinéma Club

Located in the 5th arrondissement and very close to other student-friendly places, this is one of the two places where Belly works “under the table” – we see her sweeping outside the cinema as well as finishing Finch university while handing her colleague a tub of popcorn.

La Coulée Verte René-Dumont

In the montage where Conrad is writing his letter to Belly instead of studying the cardiovascular system, we see Belly gallivanting with her friends in Paris running in a green space – La Coulée Verte René-Dumont is where Belly and friends are running, Benito takes picture of her with the Parisian buildings behind her.

In fact, I find this to be one of the more underrated places in Paris – it has one of the prettiest parks in Paris and is honestly better than the high line in New York City.

Avenue Ledru Rollin

Also in Conrad’s letter montage, we see Belly and her friends crossing a major street in Paris – this is better known as Avenue Ledru Rollin.

If you decide to come here, be sure to stop by Rue Crémieux – which is the most colorful street in Paris!

Places des Voges

Although Places des Voges is only mentioned by Benito in episode 10 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, it is absolutely worth visiting – as it’s one of the best parks in Paris.

Coquelicot Bistrot on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine

This is the other place where Belly works at in Paris in The Summer I Turned Pretty, a typical Parisian café and brasserie located out near Nation – and it actually looked really cute and cozy just like it did in the TV show!

Just note that in real life, the awning for the café is white – not red. You’ll know you’re at the right place because they have several signs out the door, in French (L'été où je suis devenue jolie) that the show was filmed there.

Season 3, Episode 11: “At Last” Filming Locations

Belly’s Apartment

Belly’s apartment in Paris is a real apartment building, and it really is around the corner from the Sacré- Cœur.

However, we should clear the rumors – and be honest that no one making as little money as Belly could ever own an apartment this big in the coveted and well-desired neighborhood of Montmartre. The rent for Belly’s apartment is easily double whatever she is earning from her under the table jobs. This was a completely unrealistic depiction of the show, but hey – it’s TV!

Metro: Line 2; Anvers (10 minute walk uphill from the exit)

Place Louis-Aragon

This is where Belly and Conrad dance at night and when they realized they never fully moved on from one another, and share their first kiss after over five years.

Palace of Versailles

Although entirely unrealistic (and strangely empty despite the nice weather), Belly and Conrad make their way all the way out to Palace of Versailles –which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to get to depending on where in Paris you leave from.

Conrad is seen running towards the giant fountain in the center, and then the two are later walking in the famous Hall of Mirrors.

Gare du Nord

Once Belly realizes she’s been in love with Conrad all along, she runs in a hurry to try and catch Conrad at Gare du Nord before his train to Brussels leaves at 5 in the morning.

Realistically, from Belly’s apartment to Gare du Nord by car (especially leaving in the early hours of the morning while it’s still dark) would be a 10 to 15 minute, at most, car ride – so this was very realistic that she made it on time.
